Dress Code All students enrolled in Sequoia Schools are expected to abide by the following dress code while on campus or while attending off campus Sequoia sponsored activities including fieldtrips, parties, and sporting events: Baseball Caps or Hats - These may be worn to and from school and during outside activities. They may not be worn inside any buildings. Shirts or T-shirts - Shirts must cover waistband of pants, or
stay tucked into the waistband of the pants, with no midriff or lower back
exposed at any time., nor during any activity (no exceptions). On all
shirts there will be no low necklines or low backs. The entire back and
front must be covered, and no underclothing may show. All shirts need to
meet these standards regardless of additional shirts, jackets, blazers, or
other "outer wear" worn over them. Inappropriate or obscene language,
advertisements, or images including violence, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex,
nudity, occultism, or other possibly offensive symbols are not allowed on
any shirt, T-shirt, or any other article of clothing. Sleeveless Shirts
are not allowed. Shorts - Shorts will be permitted if the bottom hem comes down to the mid-thigh (while in a seated position). If the length is in doubt, then measure the distance from the body to the end of the knee (while you are sitting down). The hem of the shorts must reach the half-way point. Also, extreme baggy/saggy-style shorts showing underclothing are not acceptable. Pants - Must be of an appropriate size for the person wearing them with no extreme baggy or sagging styles. Pants that are sagging low in the waist, crotch, and seat are not permitted. The width of the pant legs may not extend to the side of the student's leg more than 5" at mid-thigh, 6" at mid-calf, or 8" at the ankle. The length of pant should approximate the height of the student, not hindering walking, etc., with pant legs appropriately hemmed. Also, extremely tight pants restricting movement are not permitted. Absolutely no underclothing may show. Form Fitted, Skin Tight & Clinging Clothing - Only non-revealing clothing may be worn. Clothing that restricts movement is not acceptable. Stretch Pants and Biker Shorts - These must be worn with a loose-fitting shirt that is long enough to completely cover one's bottom. Dresses and Skirts - These must meet the same length standard as shorts and shirts including nothing sleeveless. Jumpers, as worn with a sleeved shirt, fall into a skirt and shirt category and are acceptable when following all length standards. Shorts should be worn underneath dresses, skirts, and jumpers on PE days. Shoes/Sandals - Sandals are allowed but no flip-flops, house slippers or any foot covering that appears to be unsafe for every day activity. Tennis shoes should be worn on PE days. Jewelry and Body Piercing - Pierced jewelry may be worn only in the earlobes. Ear jewelry (cuffs, earrings, etc.) may be worn only on earlobe. No more than two pieces of jewelry may be worn on/in one ear. No other pierced jewelry is allowed. Earrings and all other jewelry should be very moderate both in size and in amount worn so as not to be a distraction. Hair - Hair may not be distracting to others. Appropriate grooming and hygiene standards must be met. Hair should be neat and clean with no mohawks, long spikes, or brightly, unnatural colored hair (blues, greens, some shades of red, yellow, orange, etc).. Streaking, tipping and other hair coloring treatments and styles may be considered out of dress code if they are deemed distracting to learning by teachers and/or administrators. Exceptions may be made for plays or parties with safety and modesty being a priority. Makeup - Must be moderate at all times, thereby not distracting others. (Example - no gothic or similar make-up styles will be allowed.) Exceptions may be made for plays or parties with safety and modesty being a priority. Cell Phones & Pagers - These devices on students are discouraged because of the distractions they cause. If you feel your child needs a pager or cell phone, please contact the office. If permission is given to a student to carry a pager or cell phone, it must be turned off or placed on vibrator mode during class, tutorial, or any other school activities. Sports - Sport specific attire is always acceptable during the specific sport activity (games/practices). However, before and after the sport activity, athletes will dress according to above dress code. In General - Clothing should be modest, neat, clean, and in good repair. All clothing should be hemmed and patched neatly. Clothing that is cut off, frayed, or torn must be repaired before being worn to school. Clothing stained or damaged beyond repair may not be worn to school. All language and images on clothing must be appropriate and not disruptive to the learning environment. Gang paraphernalia, including chains and other items at the school's discretion, may not be worn. Interpretation of gang paraphernalia may be defined by the school. Exposed tattoos and temporary drawings on the skin will not be permitted. (This copy of the document, must be signed both by parent/guardian and student as part of the enrollment process.)
